33 days til Spring

Winter is always a tough time for the gardener. The days are shorter, the temps are colder and the new planting season always seems so far away. For me, I find myself watching old episodes of Gardeners World or any of the many YouTube channels I subscribe to all in an effort to keep my garden planning creative juices flowing. This winter was a little different. I spent my cold mornings making soap that I poured into the many different flower molds I have collected. I have an old soul and a love for things Victorian. The old fashion soaps that were hand carved and sat beautifully in china soap dish on the sink makes me think of a time I wish I could travel back to. The art of beautifully manicured walled gardens, pressed flowers, kitchen gardens and having tea time by the roses has a romantic feel about it. That is why we want to offer soaps that bring you back to that time. Our soap shop is open and we are uploading photos of all the beautiful soaps we have poured this winter.

With just 33 days till Spring, seed starting is in full swing. Sometimes I have to reign myself in and remind myself I can’t grow all the seeds and all the flowers. As much as I would like to and believe that I can manage it all. So I am focusing on the flowers I know grow well here and produce well. Trying to balance my time between growing flowers for bouquets, growing food for the family, hybridizing Daylilies and expanding the Lavender and sunflower fields can definitely fill an entire growing season and then some. I am excited for long hot days in the garden, beautiful flowers, honey bees and seeing what new little friends will make their homes in the dipping pond and wild flower meadow.

So as you too dust off your seed trays and roll out the weed cloth, know that I hope you are as happy in the Garden as I am and that God brings you a happy and blessed growing season.
